- Story Text: Film newcomer Brandon Routh picks up where Christopher Reeve left off, playing the lead role in director Bryan Singer's Superman Returns.
Routh and his co-star Kate Bosworth, who plays Lois Lane, say latest in the Superman series will be visually incredible.
"I mean they've got people working around the clock because they're honestly making a man fly and it's gonna look real. It's not some camp, like of joking thing. It will literally look like a man's flying in the air," said Bosworth.
The pair were in Monaco for the Grand Prix, and both acknowledged the big shoes they had to fill in recreating the blockbuster. But Bosworth said the way her character was played would change.
"Margaret Kidder did such a great job playing Lois Lane, and she was so fun and feisty and free spirited and so is this one, but the main difference I'd say is that I have a son in this film, and that really does change... I mean I don't have any children but I imagine it changes one's complete perspective on these things, they're no longer focussed on just themselves but they're completely devoted to a little being," she said.
In this film, Superman returns to earth after a mysterious absence of several years. While an old enemy plots to bring him down once and for all, Superman realizes Lois Lane appears to have moved on with her life.
Kevin Spacey plays villain Lex Luthor. Routh said he brought humour to the film, but not the kind most people would want in real life.
"What Kevin brings to the table in his representation of Lex is a character that is much more dark and sinister, and he jokes, he jokes, but there's real danger behind his jokes," he said.
