- Story Text: German police said in Berlin on Wednesday (July 22) they had confiscated the largest ever stash of the synthetic drug crystal methamphetamine, known as crystal meth or ice.
"We raided an apartment in Berlin's Schoeneberg district yesterday," Berlin police spokesman Stephan de Reese said, adding that "the operation was preceded by three months of minute investigations."
"The raid happened exactly at the time the delivery of 4.5 kilograms of crystal arrived," de Reese said, who put the street value at "approximately 675,000 euros when you consider the relatively high price per gram which in Berlin is roughly 150 euros."
He described two suspects who were arrested during the raid as two men aged 48 and 55.
"The two men lived together in the apartment in Berlin-Schoeneberg. They were evidently involved in crystal meth dealing on a grand scale and they made a lot of money with it," de Reese said.
According to him, crystal meth "is an extremely dangerous drug which makes people addicted very, very quickly. It leads to very serious brain damage and changes a person's personality." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
