- Story Text: Stars at the press conference for the Asian premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" ponder a sushi fate for the movie's fishy monster and the star studded news conference overwhelms a Japanese reporter.
Hundreds of reporters and nearly as many television crews turned up on Wednesday (May 23) at the star-studded Asia premiere press conference for the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End".
The stars, many whom flew in directly from the Los Angeles premiere, received a warm welcome in Japan ahead of the first premiere outside the United States of possibly the last episode in the series.
Johnny Depp, the lead actor who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, says even if it is the last movie in the series he believes his character will never die.
"If it is over, if the Pirate series is over, which one never knows, I reckon Captain Jack will always be with me anywhere, just visit him at home now and again," he told Japanese reporters.
Overwhelmed by the presence of so many famous stars at one press conference, one of the reporters could hardly begin her question before breaking down in tears.
However one reporter asked the crew of the film if they would consider making a tasty meal out of the film's squid character Davey Jones -- played by Bill Nighy. Japanese people, the reporter said, often see slimy fishy animals as delectable. The question hit a chord with the stars who pounced on it to poke fun at the actor's character.
"I am still intrigued by the idea of Bill as sashimi. I suddenly have this image of me sailing the seas trying to scoop pieces of Bill into a roll," Depp said.
Geoffrey Rush, who plays the scar-faced pirate Captain Barbossa, jumped in.
"I have got a lot of latex, a lot of rubber on my face. Apparently if you boil this up as a simple soup, its quite pungent and a little chewy and it makes a very nice appetizer before the Davey Jones dish," he said.
Even Orlando Bloom, who plays Will Turner, couldn't help rubbing some salt, as Bill Nighy sat by with a calm smirk on his face.
"There is nothing like a bit of calamari for the table. He's a very tasty meal, I believe," Bloom said.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" reunites Depp, Bloom, Rush and actress Keira Knightley as they set sail in an all new epic adventure that pits them against the terrifying ghost ship captained by the sea monster Davey Jones, who is bent on destroying pirate ships without mercy.
