Summary:August 26 1972 saw the death of the famous British round-the-world yachtsman Sir Francis Chichester at the age of 70. Chichester had been a pioneer seaman and airman, but his most famous exploit was to sail single-handed around the world in 1967. That year, Queen Elizabeth knighted him using the same sword with which Sir Francis Drake was dubbed four centuries earlier by the first Queen Elizabeth.
