- Story Text: The 31st edition of Sao Paulo Fashion Week kicked off on Monday (June 13) as Brazil's top designers showcased their upcoming summer/spring collections.
Hundreds of fashionistas gathered in the large venue in the Ibirapuera Park to watch supermodels hit the catwalks and present trends for the next season.
Label Tufi Duek was the first to stage its parade on the opening day of Brazil's largest fashion event.
Models with black smokey eyes paraded up and down donning short dresses covered in geometric prints and cuts, mostly in black and white, but with splashes of orange and green. All the fabrics were environment-friendly and made of recyclable materials.
Brand Animale also paraded on the first night of the bi-annual event and brought indigenous and tribal references to the runway.
Inspired by the southern region of France, designer Priscilla Darolt delivered a fresh and chic summer collection. Light fabrics and transparencies dominated most of the flowy outfits that appeared in shades of white, gray and blue, referencing the seaside region of Cote d'Azur.
Top model Raquel Zimmermann opened the show that also featured Brazilian beauties Ana Beatriz Barros and Ana Claudia Michels, Russian model Valentina Zelyaeva and Puerto Rican-born Joan Smalls.
Glittery garments, low-cut dresses and cropped shirts added the right dose of sexiness to the romantic and breezy creations that included several loose skirts and wide leg pants.
Businesswoman Juliana Santos said she enjoyed the latest creations by designer Eduardo Pombal.
"I think that what I saw on the parade today was completely different. The colors, the shapes -- I liked it a lot. I think it had an ethnic felling, also with a bit of the 70s, but in a very original way," she said.
English teacher Vivian Aniato said the designs of Pombal were very inventive.
"He is always innovative and this time he brought this ethnical line, mixing tribal and indigenous (references), colors He mixed a lot and the result was classic and also modern. I think it was very avant-garde, very beautiful," she said.
Thirty-one Brazilian designers will present their upcoming collections until Saturday (June 18), when Sao Paulo Fashion Week closes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
