- Story Text: The remains of Monica Burgos, the murdered wife of a former "Survivor" television series producer, were flown back to the US on Wednesday (April 28).
Her relatives were officially handed over the body on Monday (April 26) by the attorney general's office of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
Bruce Beresford-Redman was arrested on suspicion of murdering his Brazilian wife, Monica, over two weeks ago but then released. Her body was found near mangroves at the luxury hotel where they were staying in the Caribbean resort of Cancun. Police have said Beresford-Redman remains the prime suspect.
A hearse carrying Monica's remains was seen leaving a funeral home towards the airport. Her coffin was placed on board a Continental Airlines flight heading to Los Angeles via Houston.
An autopsy on Burgos was completed earlier on Monday and the report is due next week. An arrest warrant is also imminent.
"We know that in effect the body was prepared and sent to the United States, it seems, today. It's not our job to monitor that anymore, however they (family) have keep us informed of everything that has happened after we handed over Monica Burgos' body," said Quintana Roo State Assistant Attorney General Rodolfo Garcia Pliego.
Beresford-Redman, a former U.S. producer for the hit reality series "Survivor" and co-creator of the car make-over show "Pimp My Ride," has been barred from leaving the country until results from forensic tests have returned.
The state attorney's office in Quintana Roo said a preliminary autopsy showed that Monica Beresford-Redman choked to death after a blow to the head.
