- Story Text: An estimated 14,000 Dutch fans are expected to march on the Moses Mabhiba stadium in Durban for the knock-out match between the Netherlands and Slovakia on Monday, June 28.
A windswept Durban beachfront was inundated with a sea of orange shirts as upbeat Dutch fans flocked to the city to watch their heroes take on the World Cup giant killers, Slovakia.
What was noticeable was lack of travelling Slovak fans in the city but Peter Novak told Reuters, what the Slovak fans lacked in numbers, they would make up with sheer volume in the stadium:
"We don't care about how many Holland people are here, we will be louder, louder. Slovakia!"
For the Dutch fans, they were expecting to progress, but are nervous about the teams still left in the competition.
"Well we are nervous now that we are going to the round of 16, to see whether Holland makes its way through, but we have full confidence. Honestly, we have seen Germany playing, and Argentina, Brazil... we are a bit nervous about them, but this game, we will win for sure. We gonna win, we gonna win. Robben is going to score twice," said Dutch fans Niek Hernsen, Christi Boersma and Marieke Schreuder.
The Dutch will be pleased by the return to the team of Arjen Robben, who returns to the starting line-up for the first time since being injured in a friendly match earlier this month.
"Robben is the secret weapon of the Netherlands," said Dutch fan Frank Vlod Werf. "He is the creative motor, he has a kind of impulsiveness, he does the kind of unbeatable actions, he is just fantastic in that respect. We are absolutely not afraid of Slovakia, all the more because we know some players from Slovakia. For instance Miroslav Stoch, he currently plays with the national champion FC Twente, we know him in Holland inside out."
The Slovaks will be playing at sea level for the first time in Durban after matches in Rustenburg, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg, while Netherlands have not competed at altitude since their first game in Johannesburg. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
