- Story Text: Latvia is pinning its hopes on 22-year-old Aminata for victory in 2015's Eurovision song contest with her self-penned song "Love Injected".
Aminata saw off stiff competition in the national stage of the contest, where 98 songs were submitted and 20 selected for the finals.
"I was very, very happy, but also surprised, as I thought until the very last moment that I wouldn't win, I thought people would vote for other contestants. I am very grateful that it all happened this way and I am proud to represent Latvia," she told Reuters.
Aminata, whose mother is a Latvian of Russian descent and whose father is from Burkina Faso, has dreamed of being a singer since childhood. After a stage debut at 13, she has since won a national TV talent show and participated in the international singing contest "New Wave" in 2011. Shortly before this year's Eurovision Song contest she released the debut album "Inner Voice".
The first-time Eurovision entrant said that "Love Injected", which she composed herself, held a very personal message.
"This song is about my personal feelings, my thoughts about love. I am talking about love as a great power that helps to overcome any difficulties, that love gives us strength and inspires us. Love is the most important thing on this planet," she said.
Aminata is set to initially perform on the evening of May 21, at the semi-final stage. Although bookmakers currently give her only 1% chance of winning, they also say that after the bad luck in the recent years at the competition, Latvia again has a chance to enter the finals of the Eurovision.
Latvia has participated in the Eurovision Song contest since 2000, gaining victory in 2002 with the song "I Wanna" by Latvian singer Marie N. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
