- Story Text: McDonald's opened 15 pilot restaurants in south-east England on Wednesday (May 13) for deliveries, as lockdown restrictions eased and some businesses get back to work.
The company said on Tuesday (May 12) it plans to reopen all its drive-throughs in the United Kingdom and Ireland by early June, as both countries ease coronavirus-led restrictions on road travel after weeks-long lockdowns.
Thirty restaurants in the UK and Ireland are planned to offer services through the drive-through lane from May 20.
McDonald's said it would cap spending in their drive-throughs at 25 pounds per car and encourage customers to opt for contactless payment methods.
Restaurants currently have reduced menus and hours.
The company also warned that service may not be as quick as pre-pandemic levels because of reduced staffing and social distancing measures in kitchens.
