Farmers in India are employing all the hooks and crooks to protect the result of their months of hard work, in the form of farm produce, from the attack of swarms of locusts.
Farmers in northern Kanpur city braced themselves after an alert from the district administration and are guarding their lands day and night, banging utensils to scare away the swarms of locusts.
Farmers in northern India are dealing with a heavy blow when locusts are destroying summer crops of cotton, sugarcane, and rice are being sown, and fruit and vegetables that are ready to be picked.
One of the deadliest pests for farms produce, locusts are known to destroy crops and vegetables, and whatever they find in their way, in search of food.
India is battling its worst desert locust outbreak in decades with infestations radiating through much of the western states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, central state of Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the north - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
