- Story Text: Paris's zoo re-opened on Monday (June 8) after a three month closure because of COVID-19 shutdown with 62 new residents.
Sixty-two babies were born in the zoo on the city's eastern edge including new baboons, oryxes, Humboldt penguins and flamingos. One of the newest arrivals were twin ring-tailed lemurs born on May 2.
To welcome visitors, new safety measures have been put in place. No more than 2,300 visitors will be allowed in at any one time -- a quarter of the usual capacity -- tiny areas of the park will remain closed, all adults must wear a mask, and everyone must wash their hands with hydroalcoholic gel before entering the zoo.
According to zookeeper, Fabrice Bernard, the closure didn't change the animals' habits, it was the zookeepers who missed the visitors.
