- Story Text: Asian equities fell sharply on Friday (June 12) after Wall Street stocks and oil tumbled over growing concerns that a resurgence of coronavirus infections could stunt the pace of reopening economies.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 opened down 1.74 percent at 22,082.12 points.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 325.62 points or 1.33 per cent as of 10:26 AM local time (0226 GMT).
The three major U.S. stock indexes fell more than 5% on Thursday (June 11), posting their worst day since mid-March, when markets were sent into free-fall by the abrupt economic lockdowns put in place to contain the pandemic.
