- Story Text: Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer was lit up with different messages on Wednesday (July 1) to pay tribute to COVID-19 victims in Brazil.
The projection featured several languages on the iconic statue, displaying messages as "Together for every life" and "More than 500,000 lives."
The statue was also illuminated with images of essential and medical workers, and volunteers who have worked during the crisis.
The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, Brazilian Caritas with the support of the United Nations organized the tribute.
Brazil surpassed 60,000 coronavirus deaths on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said, citing a recent wave of contamination in Southern and Midwestern areas of the country.
