- Story Text: After winning the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 in December, Thailand's football team rose from the ashes to sensational stars among fans all over the country.
Thailand's 41-year old coach Kiatisak Senamuang, also known as 'Zico', is preparing the squad to defend its title in the SEA Games championship and become one of the 12 teams in Asia qualifying for the World Cup in 2016.
Zico said on Monday that a strategic plan has been prepared to ensure that each player is equally good in terms of physical strength and technique.
"The majority of players that are called today are those who have played in my teams in the previous SEA Games in Naypyitaw (Myanmar capital), Asian Games and the Suzuki Cup, so there won't be many new training tactics for them this time, we will only review," he told a news conference in Bangkok.
"We'll concentrate in training on penalty kicks for the semi-final and final games when we are level (after 90 minutes play). Every team in ASEAN is always looking to defeat the Thai national team," said Zico.
Thailand has tried for years to send a team to the World Cup and now new hope has arisen under the lead of the 41-year coach.
Zico is aiming high.
"We will do our best to achieve our target to keep the SEA Games championship and to get the main national team into the 12 Asian teams to qualify for the World Cup. And we are also preparing to reach the Olympics," he told reporters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
