- Story Text: Thousands of eager participants dived head first into the mud on Sunday (May 10) on the last of three days of the annual 'Mud Day' obstacle course outside Paris.
The Mud Day challenge consists of a 13-kilometre course in a military camp west of Paris. The course contains 20 combat-inspired obstacles, including crawling through mud, sliding down a water slide into a pool of muddy water and rope climbing above a pool of ice-cold water.
Participants braved the challenge alone or in groups of four and finished with mud and smiles on their faces.
Many said that despite the physical difficulty of the course, the atmosphere made the experience memorable.
"It was a piece of cake!" joked participant Nicolas Maignan. "No, really, it was pretty complicated. But we succeeded in the end. And it was really fun for everyone."
Another participant, named Samuel, said the bodily pain he'll face on "Mudday", the Monday after the race, was worth it.
"It was hard, but it was super fun. We had a ball. There was a great team spirit for everyone. It was well-organized. And yeah we hurt now, but we're happy to hurt," Samuel said.
The annual 'Mud Day' race and obstacle course started in Paris in 2013. This year's race, which took place over three days on May 8-10, saw a estimated 25,000 participants, according to the organization. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
