- Story Text: Voters visiting Washington gave a mixed review of President Donald Trump's tweet where he floats the idea that the 2020 election should be delayed.
Some voters described the tweet as an embarrassment to the nation and an electoral tactic.
"I think it's more of an embarrassment to have people wait than to do it right now, to have the election now," said Paige Carozzolo, who was visiting Washington from New York.
"I think he's manipulating the system because with prolonging the 2020 census, the protests: he knows that he needs votes, he's using this for his advantage because he needs our votes," said Johanna Flores, a Queens, New York resident in town for a protest.
A pair of veterans and mothers told Reuters they supported the president.
"I agree with delaying it if there's going to be a mail-in election because I think all voting should be done in person. I'm also a veteran so that's a freedom that I fought for and I agree with it being in person because there's too much that can happen if you vote by mail, too much fraud. I would have to agree that I would rather have to delay the election than have people vote by mail," said Kristen Schoeffel, who lives in the Washington suburbs.
"I think voting is a really important civic duty. I'm a military veteran, I come from a family of military veterans and that's why we joined, because it's so important to uphold that civic duty and I cannot imagine doing that duty on a piece of paper. It is so important to do it in person and if there really is genuinely a concern of health and safety for us Americans then yes I do think it should be delayed to be able to do that in person," said veteran Capri Galaska.
