The day Joachim Loew's team Germany team gave a tired performance and was held to a 1-1 draw by Switzerland, another German soccer team beat the Netherlands 7-5 on Sunday (September 6) in "the world's first naked international."
Players from the two countries, wearing only socks and shoes, got together at a stadium in Wuppertal in what was intended as an art project and a protest against FIFA, the powerful global soccer body.
The game's organiser, artist Gerrit Starczewski said soccer now was "all about money," adding Champions League finalists Paris St. Germain "belongs 100% to a sheikh."
One of the Germany players who gave his name as Michael, dreamed of holding a naked international in England one day.
"I would be excited to hold a match on the island, over there. But as far as corona goes they are pretty strange so that won't work yet. But that would be fantastic," said Michael.
The players proudly displayed the art project's motto "Ey FIFA, leckt uns am Arsch," or "FIFA, kiss our asses" as individual letters on their backs for a final group photo.
Needless to say, the players had no sponsors -- and they were proud of it.
