- Story Text: Thousands of video games addicts flocked to Zara Expo in Amman over the weekend to show off their video games skills during a one-of-a-kind games tournament.
Organsied by Power League Gaming, the three-day tournament was held for the first time in the capital to give the youth the opportunity to take part in live games competitions.
Majdi Mohammad, one of the event's managers, said the tournament aims to search for the best gamers in the region.
"This is a chance for the Jordanian and Arab youths to take part in a big competition like this to boost their system.scripts.mwith video games. It enables them to use their energy in a positive way. This is something that was very well received by young people. We had a great turnout from many countries. Arab and foreign students also came to take part in the contest and many of them travelled to participate. There is a good atmosphere here and there are foreign participants and an Arab touch even in the international Jordanian events," said Mohammad.
Participants competed on Playstation, Xbox, mobile gaming and PC monitors, playing some of the most popular video and online games.
Wining participants were awarded with many prizes including a chance to compete in regional competitions. Mohammad explained how the process works.
"The system of the tournament is based on qualifications, the one who wins makes it to the next stage and the one who loses unfortunately will have to try again in the coming years. The ones who advance will take part in the final qualifications of the international competitions that will be held in Dubai," he added.
The highlight of the event was FIFA 15 which attracted hundreds of football lovers.
Rakan Shwbaki was among the participants. He said he was pleased to finally see the tournament make it to Amman.
"The idea of the contest was great because we always see power league gaming being held in many Arab countries but this is the first time in which we can show off our skills in video games here. We've been trying for many years to participate in competitions through online platforms, but it never worked, and if we manage to do that, it would be limited because of the poor internet connection," he said.
The 13-year-old Omran Khamash said he was fed up playing video games alone and found the event a great opportunity to compete with other people.
"I came here to play FIFA and this is the first time I take part in a contest, and I wanted to experience how it is like to participate in such an event. I really liked it because it is really boring to play at home alone so I wanted to come here to play with other people," said Khamash.
Mohammad said a total of 10 video games were featured during the contest including EA Sports FIFA 15 National Championship, Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty, Dota 2 and Battlefield Hardline.
According to Mohammad , Dota 2 and FIFA 2015 were the most sought-after games in the tournament.
