- Story Text: Thousands raced through the streets of Paris in a cloud of coloured powder on Sunday (April 19).
As part of the 'Color Run', runners dressed in white raced five kilometres along the banks of the river Seine to reach the foot of the Eiffel Tower donning the colours of the rainbow after being sprayed with various coloured dyes along the way.
The run began at the town hall with different colours -- yellow, green, blue and pink -- used at the various checkpoints which were scattered along the banks of the River Seine.
"The goal is to run five kilometres, at every kilometre there are jets of colour - pink, green, yellow and blue. The goal is to have the most colours, to arrive at the finish line the most colourful and then everyone celebrates together," said one runner, Goen, before the start of the race.
The atmosphere was relaxed rather than competitive with the bright sunshine and music adding to the fun.
"It's superb, we're running, we're having fun, there's music, there's ambience, there's paints," said one runner covered in yellow powder. "We love it!" she screamed, as she continued to the blue zone.
The finale included a race past the Eiffel Tower with a final crossing of the river followed by a concert.
"It was just running for fun, really, just to have fun, nothing else. To have a good time with my friends and we had a sunny day so that was cool," said Meddih who finished the race and was sporting a mixture of all four colours.
The first Color Run took place in the United States in 2012 but they have since been held in more than 30 countries from Argentina and the United Arab Emirates to Japan. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
