- Story Text: India ushered in the New Year on Friday (January 01) with grand beach parties and precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Revellers in beach resort state of Goa danced and screamed to welcome the New Year while in eastern Kolkata, people were mesmerized by colourfully decorated markets and streets that were lit with sparkling lights.
Several states and major cities in the country have imposed night curfews, restricted large gatherings and shut down pubs and restaurants.
New Delhi said it would not allow more than five people to assemble at public places, while financial capital Mumbai and tech capital Bengaluru limited gatherings to four. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
