Shamans, shirtless bodybuilders, ukuleles, and ethnic minorities marching in traditional costume were just a few of many colourful protests in Myanmar's largest city of Yangon on Thursday (February 11) as demonstrations against the military coup continue for a sixth consecutive day.
While a group of shamans said that they had "dreamt" that "every deity is up against the military dictatorship," shirtless bodybuilders could be seen protesting outside the Chinese embassy, with profanity-laden messages written across their bodies, denouncing the military government. Protesters have accused Beijing of supporting the military junta despite Chinese denials.
Meanwhile, 25-year-old musician Wai Moe Aung led an army of ukuleles as they played revolutionary hymns advocating political change, representing Myanmar's self-proclaimed "Generation Z"--a generation of youth which has come of age during the country's years of democratic development.
Myanmar's army seized power on February 1 and detained elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, ending a long transition towards democracy and bringing tens of thousands of demonstrators onto the streets.
Authorities have warned protesters to disperse or face force, but protests have continued in cities across the country. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
