- Story Text:The Beating the retreat or flag-lowering ceremony at the Indo-Bangladesh border in northeastern Agartala city began after ten months of COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday (February 18).
The retreat was hosted by India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) at the city's Akhawra border. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have not resumed the ceremony at their end, considering the pandemic concerns.
The ceremony attracts hundreds of visitors from both the neighbours, however, the event was carried out in the presence of a limited number of guests, including the BSF officials.
The ceremony is conducted to enhance confidence-building measures between two border guards for better manning the border.
Both the counteries share a border stretching more than 4,000 km (2,400 miles), where clashes have intermittently erupted over what India terms illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
