- Story Text: "The X Factor" 2016 winner, Matt Terry, described his shock at winning the singing competition over the last weekend in front of around 10,000 fans at Wembley Arena.
Millions tuned in on TV to see the Londoner finish ahead of Saara Aalto on Sunday (December 11).
"Man, honestly, I was not expecting it at all. So, it was such a shock to hear my name. My whole body just gave way and I just lost it a little bit and then it hit me what happened all of a sudden. So, it's just amazing," said Terry.
The singer, who was coached by former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger during the competition, has released his debut single, "When Christmas Comes Around", a song written by British musician Ed Sheeran.
"Man, I just cannot believe that my first single is written by Ed Sheeran. It's just unreal. I can't believe it's happening to me and I just feel so grateful and it's a charity single so the two charities it's supporting are so incredible," Terry told Reuters.
Matt Terry faces strong competition from One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, who performed on the "The X Factor" final following the death of his mother, with his song "Just Hold On" in the race for this week's number one in the UK charts. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
