The widow of assassinated Haitian president Jovenel Moise paid tribute to her late husband at his funeral on Friday (July 23), remembering him as passionate and determined.
''When I met Jo (Jovenel) the man that would become my husband, the father of my children, I saw in him a brilliant, emotional and creative soul, a passionate and determined person, a sympathetic person, a playful person with a lot of charisma, a reserved young man, but so generous,'' Moise said.
Inside the auditorium where the Roman Catholic funeral was held, four pallbearers in military attire solemnly stood by the closed wooden casket. It was draped with a Haitian flag and set on a dais garlanded with white flowers.
Moise was gunned down in his home in Port-au-Prince before dawn on July 7, setting off a new political crisis in the Caribbean country that has struggled with poverty and lawlessness.
