Summary:The end of an epic voyage for a 59-year-old English shopkeeper came on July 4 1968. On that day, yachtsman Alec Rose sailed into Portsmouth harbour at the end of a solo voyage around the world which had taken him a year to complete. An estimated quarter of a million people were on the beaches to welcome him as he arrived on his 11-metre yacht 'Lively Lady'.
