- Story Text: Indian Olympic medalists on Monday (August 09) received a rousing welcome at New Delhi Airport as they returned home after winning seven medals, their biggest Games haul ever in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
People danced to drum beats, cheered,and welcomed the winners including, Indian athlete, Neeraj Chopra who won gold in men's javelin, wrestler, Bajrang Punia who won bronze medal in men's 65kg wrestling, wrestler, Ravi Kumar Dahiya who won silver medal in the 57kg freestyle wrestling, boxer, Lovlina Borgohain who received bronze medal in women's welterweight (64-69kg) and men's hockey team members, who won bronze medal.
"I just want to thank the countrymen for their prayers and I had worked hard so, I got the fruit of my hard work that I won gold medal for India. I am very happy," said Chopra.
The medalists were also felicitated at an event by Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Indian law and justice minister, Kiren Rijiju.
The world's second-most populous nation has been an Olympic laggard and the six medals the contingent won in London 2012 was the best outing for the nation of 1.35 billion before Tokyo. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
