- Story Text: Hundreds of people including police and military personnel, attended on Friday (January 6) the funeral of Turkish police officer Fathi Sekin who was killed in an attack in Izmir city.
The funeral ceremony was held outside the residency of Izmir's provincial governor.
Sekin's police colleagues carried his coffin, wrapped in a Turkish flag, among the large crowd which had gathered for the solemn occasion.
Some Turkish citizens expressed their worries following the attack, but said Turkey will stay united and hopefully overcome the situation.
Turkish police detained 18 people in connection with Thursday's gun and bomb attack which killed two people in the city of Izmir.
The government said Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants were responsible for the attack.
The car bombing and gunfire outside the main courthouse in Turkey's third largest city, located on its western Aegean coast, highlighted the country's deteriorating security after a gunman killed 39 people in a New Year's Day mass shooting at an Istanbul nightclub. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
