Summary:The last decisive battle of World War I, the second battle of the Marne, was won on July 18 1918. Fifty years later, General de Gaulle visited the battle site to commemorate the victory which led to the end of the war - and to review a parade of British and French troops whose regiments had taken part in it. In the battle, Allied forces destroyed the German divisions and opened the way for a thrust towards Germany.
