- Story Text: France's Emmanuel Macron was welcomed to Ireland by Irish President Michael Higgins on Thursday (August 26), marking the start of a one-day visit by the French president.
Macron was greeted by Higgins and his wife Sabina Higgins at the official presidential residence, Ãras an Uachtaráin, where the two presidents were due to hold a bilateral meeting.
Later on Thursday, Macron is expected to meet with Irish Taoiseach Michael Martin, while France's foreign and finance ministers are due to meet their Irish counterparts.
The European Union's response to the crisis in Afghanistan is among the topics of discussion, as well as the COVID-19 recovery and global tax reform.
