- Story Text: Kabul residents on Friday (August 27) started to hold funerals for those who were killed in a deadly attack outside the airport on the previous day.
At the hospital, the injured were being treated and anxious family members were seen checking on their loved ones.
At least one Islamic State (ISIS) suicide bomber was responsible for the attack on Thursday (August 26) evening outside the gates of Hamid Karzai International Airport, which killed 85 people including 13 U.S. soldiers, witnesses said.
"Our hearts are on fire, how long should we lose our lives and be humiliated? This is really a big loss for all of us," said an unidentified relative of someone who was killed.
U.S. forces helping to evacuate Afghans desperate to flee Taliban rule were on alert for more attacks on Friday, according to General Frank McKenzie, head of U.S. Central Command. The pace of evacuation flights had also accelerated, according to a Western security official stationed inside the airport. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
