Monday (September 13) marks the 25th anniversary of the death of legendary U.S. rapper Tupac Shakur who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Shakur, 25, was shot four times, including twice in the chest, when his car stopped at a red light in Las Vegas.
He died at a Nevada hospital six days later on September 13, 1996.
The rap artist had previously survived a beating and gunshot wounds to the groin, head, hand and thigh at the Quad Recording Studios in New York City in 1994.
This attack ignited a widely reported feud between East Coast and West Coast rappers that eventually led to the 1996 killing of Shakur.
Six months later, the Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace) was also shot and killed in Los Angeles.
Rap stars and once bitter rivals, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Snoop Dogg said in March 2007 they had buried the hatchet once and for all. At a news conference in Helsinki to launch a joint European tour, they said they had "moved on".
Combs, as head of the New York-based Bad Boy Entertainment, represented the east, while Snoop Dogg was signed up to his big rival Death Row Records based in Los Angeles.
Although the battle was fought largely through public pronouncements and antagonistic lyrics, it did occasionally spill into violence.
Shakur's murder remains unsolved.
The rapper, whose songs about social and racial injustice still resonate today, was only the 6th rap act in April 2017 to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its 30-year history.
It described him as "an international symbol of resistance and outlaw spirit, an irresistible contradiction, a definitive rap anti-hero".
That is a big claim for the Harlem-born son of two Black Panther activists who spent time in jail for assault and released just four albums throughout his career, but sold 75 million albums, mostly from seven posthumous releases.
The Shakur biopic "All Eyez on Me" premiered in London in June 2017, with Demetrius Shipp Jr. playing the rapper on screen.
The film follows Tupac breaking through into music and his climb to become a global star. It also explores his friendship with Notorious BIG, who he would later fall out with, his imprisonment, and his work with controversial music mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight.
Shakur the entrepreneur also had a vision for launching a restaurant in New York City called the Powamekka Café.
In April 2017, that vision that became a reality as a two-day pop-up appeared in the Lower East Side.
It featured mac 'n' cheese, cheese fries and Pac's wings, which his cousin Jamala used to make for the late rapper.
Fans were also able to see personal photos from Tupac's estate, music memorabilia and poetry.
