- Title: People of Bosnia and Herzegovina should determine their future themselves - Lavrov
- Date: 17th January 2017
- Summary: MOSCOW, RUSSIA (JANUARY 17, 2017) (REUTERS) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, AT NEWS CONFERENCE MEDIA (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, SAYING: "We've reminded our Western partners many times that it becomes inappropriate to keep in Bosnia and Herzegovina which is considered to be an independent state an office of the so called the High Representative who has rights of a governor-general and can force any kind of decisions on the three state-forming peoples - the Bosniacs, the Serbs and the Croats" NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, SAYING: "A few years ago Bosnia and Herzegovina even was a non-permanent member of the (UN) Security Council. But the European Union still stands for or cannot give up the powers of the High Representative. This, of course, irritates, as well as the fact that the Serbian public figures in Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina are constantly accused of ruining the state." CAMERAMAN (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, SAYING: "I will stress once again that nobody is ruining this state. Miroslav (Milorad) Dodik has many times confirmed his adherence to the Dayton Agreements. But the Dayton Agreements are indeed violated by those who try to make decisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina without taking into account the opinion of all three state forming nations, without their consent." NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, SERGEI LAVROV, SAYING: "When hysterics are thrown because of the Bosnian Serbs' decision to proclaim January 9th a day of their culture and when it is declared to be a disruption of the Dayton Agreements this is just another provocation and another sign of bruised pride because somebody admits their own values, but not the Brussels' post-Christian values." - Story Text: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday (January 17) that Bosnia and Herzegovina is an independent state and there is no need in the Office of the U.N. High Representative in the country.
He also said that the Bosniacs, the Serbs and the Croats should determine their future themselves.
Lavrov said that President of the Serb Republic, Milorad Dodik, doesn't violate the Dayton Agreements.
The Bosnian Serb leader, who advocates independence for the Serb Republic and favours closer ties with Russia, has repeatedly questioned the legality of Bosnia's national judiciary and threatened a referendum on the status of these institutions. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
