- Date: 18th January 2017
- Summary: DAVOS, SWITZERLAND (JANUARY 18, 2017) (REUTERS) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, BEING INTERVIEWED (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING: "For the moment, the contacts we have had, that I have had with (U.S. Vice-President-elect) Mike Pence have been very positive and we have identified a number of issues where for sure our interests coincide and where we are ready to work together. And we'll see, any new administration will have to have some time to set up the real policies to put in place." MOGHERINI SPEAKING (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING: "On the Iran deal, we have made very clear from the beginning, and we will continue to do that, that first of all, one year after its implementation it's bringing good results to the rest of the world, including the Americans, including Europe and that the European Union is committed to preserve and implement the deal. And the deal is not a unilateral, bilateral deal that can be re-negotiated by one party alone. So it's a multilateral framework and we are ready protect and to preserve it." REPORTER LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING: "So I think it's very clear to everybody reopening it partially would not be possible and by the way, it's delivering on the nuclear related steps that Iran has taken, certified four times by the IAEA this first year. And it's delivering also for the Iranian people." CAMERAMAN FILMING (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING (on BREXIT): "I noticed that Theresa May mentioned several times the need for the European Union to stay strong as a union and the intention to cooperate even after Brexit is completed, which will take some time in the fields especially of foreign policy and security. So these are the messages I'm getting and also, something important I think that she mentioned is the fact that this relates to specific history and geography of the U.K. being somehow a special case and wishing the European Union strength, also because this is important for Great Britain. So this is also a message to Washington somehow and I think this is a message of strength of the European Union from a country that is still a member state." BACK SHOT OF MOGHERINI SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING (on BREXIT): "So we're still 28, we're still a union of 28 and we will continue to be, I think, a very strong union, also for the benefit of the Brits." REPORTER LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (English) EUROPEAN UNION FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF, FEDERICA MOGHERINI, SAYING (on RUSSIA): "On Russia, we cooperate on many issues bilaterally, the EU and Russia. On some of the issues, namely on Ukraine, we have a serious divergence but we are, I think, committed jointly with the American friends, to have the Minsk agreement implemented. Our sanctions are linked purely to that. The moment when the Minsk agreement will be implemented our sanctions will go." MOGHERINI WALKING OFF

- Story Text: The nuclear deal between world powers and Iran will not be partially re-negotiated and the European Union is determined to "protect and preserve" it, EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini told Reuters Television on Wednesday (January 18).
"We have made very clear from the beginning, and we will continue to do that, that first of all, one year after its implementation it's bringing good results to the rest of the world, including the Americans, including Europe," Mogherini said in reference to her discussions with the incoming U.S. administration.
"The deal is not a unilateral, bilateral deal that can be re-negotiated by one party alone," Mogherini said after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump had called it "the worst deal ever negotiated."
Asked about British Prime Minister Theresa May's speech on Brexit a day earlier, Mogherini said "I noticed that Theresa May mentioned several times the need for the European Union to stay strong as a union."
"This is also a message to Washington somehow and I think this is a message of strength of the European Union from a country that is still a member state," said Mogherini.
On Russia, the EU foreign policy chief said that despite "serious divergence" on the issue of Ukraine, the EU was "committed" to implement the Minsk agreement.
"The moment when the Minsk agreement will be implemented our sanctions will go," said Mogherini. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
