- Story Text: The port of Dover on Britain's Kent coast was quiet on Monday (November 29) following the death last week of 27 migrants who drowned attempting to cross the Channel.
Patrol boats were seen towing inflatable dinghies that migrants use to cross the waterway from France.
The tragedy has further strained ties between France and Britain who are already at loggerheads over post-Brexit trading rules and fishing rights
Last week, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote to French President Emmanuel Macron setting out five steps the two countries could take to deter migrants from making the perilous journey. One of those - sending illegal migrants back to France - particularly angered Paris.
France responded by cancelling an invitation to British Interior Minister Priti Patel to attend a meeting on Sunday (November 28) with European counterparts to discuss the issue after Johnson published the letter on Twitter.
Macron said he did not want to conduct diplomacy via social media and said on Friday (November 26) that Britain needed to "get serious" or remain locked out of the discussions over how to curb the migrant flow.
