Summary:August 27 1968, a week after massive Soviet and Warsaw Pact armies had crossed into Czechoslovakia, some of the tanks and troops began to pull out. Tanks and lorries were moving back to the border, often accompanied by jeers from Czech people watching them go. In the rest of the country there was a slow return to outward normality. Soviet forces were less evident in the streets and the damage done in the invasion was being cleared up.
