- Story Text: A Russian defence ministry shop in Moscow offered a special ten percent discount to all U.S. citizens on Friday (January 20) - the day of Donald Trump's inauguration.
A screen in the shop's window announcing the discount featured Trump's photograph and a text in Russian reading "Additional 10 percent discount on the day of U.S. President inauguration. Discount for U.S. embassy staff and citizens."
The shop called "Army of Russia" specialises in military-style clothes supplies and is located across the street from the U.S. embassy in central Moscow.
The shop staff as well as the company which owns did not comment on the discount proposal.
Many Russian hope for a thaw in relations with Washington after Trump takes the office.
"I hope normal relations with Russia will be re-established, (relations) without sanctions which no one needs," said Irina, a Moscow resident, when asked what she expects from Trump's presidency.
"At least Trump is a competent person, and if he is in power I think he would try to improve relations with us," said another Muscovite, Yakov.
Trump has repeatedly said he will seek to improve relations with Moscow despite criticism that he is too eager to make an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The United States and other Western powers imposed sanctions on Russia in 2014 over its annexation of the Crimea peninsula from Ukraine and its support for pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
