- Story Text: Russia's President Vladimir Putin attended midnight Christmas mass alone at his Novo-Ogaryovo state residence outside Moscow on Friday (January 7).
The Kremlin did not state why Putin, who traditionally visits small churches outside Moscow at Christmas, took part in the service alone in a private church at his residence.
In Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill led a mass, which started late on Thursday (January 6).
Due to the pandemic, access to the cathedral was limited, and parishioners could attend the service only by invitation, the church said without specifying who was invited.
