- Story Text: U.S. Air Force planes were seen landing and taking off at Rzeszow airport on Friday (February 4), the planes, transporting a small number personnel and equipment are being brought in to prepare the airfield for the arrival of the US army, according to an army spokesman.
Several planes landed on Friday after President Joe Biden's administration announced on Wednesday the deployment of nearly 3,000 American troops to eastern Europe in the coming days.
Around 1,700 soldiers from the Fort Bragg-based 82nd Airborne Division are meant to come to Poland.
The U.S. military already has about 4,500 troops in Poland in both a NATO and a bilateral capacity, mostly stationed in the west of the country on a rotational basis.
This military help aims at reinforcing NATO's eastern flank facing a Russian military build-up in Ukraine and Belarus, both neighbouring Poland.
