Details Britain's Princess Diana was in New York on Monday (December 11) to receive an award for her philanthropic work, and, according to observers of the royal family, to show that she can be an impressive goodwill ambassador for her country. Diana, who has been separated for three years from her husband, Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, said in a recent television interview that she hoped the British government would use her as an ambassador. United Cerebral Palsy, a leading foundation and advocacy group for those suffering from the neurological handicap, gave Diana the foundation's Humanitarian Award at its annual dinner. Former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger presented the award to Princess Diana. Retired United States Army General Colin Powell will also be honoured by the foundation. Accepting the award, the Princess urged everyone to go out and show their humanity in what she called this "sad world".
