- Story Text:India's Border Security Forces (BSF) exchanged sweets and bouquets with their Bangladesh counterparts to mark Bangladesh's 51st Independence Day on Saturday (March 26).
A joint beating retreat ceremony was also held to commemorate the occasion at the integrated check post at Fulbari town.
"Now we are going to start our joint retreat also and we are also going to start our joint patrolling also," said Inspector General of North Bengal Frontier, Border Security Force, Ajai Singh.
Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan, was liberated from Pakistan after a nine-month war of independence.
On March 26, 1971, Pakistan launched military attacks against Bangladeshi civilians, students and armed personnel who collectively demanded separation from West Pakistan.
The war continued for nine months and finally culminated in the country's independence on December 16, 1971.
