- Story Text:The U.N. climate panel will release a major report on Monday (April 4), the third in a series detailing the latest global consensus on climate science.
The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will focus on ways to rein in planet-warming emissions.
Between January and March, weather-related disasters struck around the globe, from flooding in Brazil and parts of northwestern U.S., to Cyclone Batsirai in Madagascar and Storm Eunice in northwestern Europe.
Today, there are about five times the number of weather-related disasters than there were in the 1970s. These droughts, floods, heatwaves and storms have killed more than two million people and wrought $3.64 trillion in losses worldwide since 1970, World Meteorological Organization data show.
