- Story Text: Mexico City celebrated its ninth Pulque Festival on Saturday (April 2), an event dedicated to celebrating the ancient Aztec cocktail that Mexicans have been drinking for centuries.
"I love pulque for its texture, it’s very rich, it’s almost like a dessert. All the different flavors, very beautiful, and the tradition involved in its making is also quite interesting, â€said Robert Duguay, a New Yorker visiting Mexico.
In pre-hispanic Mexico, Aztecs produced an alcoholic beverage known as pulque made from the fermented sap of agave plants and claimed it was the elixir of the gods.
