Residents of the southeast Ukrainian city of Mariupol on Sunday (April 3) were seen burring their neighbors in yard among heavily damaged residential buildings.
The port city has been subject to intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces for weeks.
"Lots of civilians were killed, and there are still lots of (bodies) still in apartments," local resident Denis told Reuters.
"We dig graves in shell craters as it is easier to dig here," he added.
Tens of thousands of civilians have been trapped for weeks with scant food, water and other supplies in the city that was once home to 400,000 people but has been devastated by the conflict.
According to the United Nations, more than four million people have left Ukraine since the fighting started on February 24, when Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine for what he calls a "special military operation" to demilitarise his country's neighbour.
Western countries call it an unprovoked war of aggression.
Russia says the southeastern region of Donbas, where it has backed separatists since 2014, is now the focus of its military efforts.
