- Story Text: Far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour devoted his final campaign speech to the French youth ahead of Sunday's (April 10) election.
He appealled to the young French as "the future of the country", as support for his campaign waned and far-right candidate Marine Le Pen gained momentum.
“The country we are preparing is where you’ll live," he told the crowd in Paris as they waved French flags.
Zemmour described the France of the future as "a country without class struggle, race struggle, gender struggle, without religious or civil war" - as long as he was elected.
For 18-year-old student, Adan, Zemmour won't be elected, but he's already aiming for the June legislative elections.
"The most important is to gather votes for member of parliament,†he told Reuters.
According to Zemmour’s campaign, over 5,000 people attended the rally.
A victory in a two-round presidential election on April 10 and 24 is now within the margin of error, one opinion poll showed, even if President Emmanuel Macron is still ahead and seen as the most likely winner.
A newcomer to politics, Zemmour, threatened to upend the French election when he threw his hat in the ring last year. His ratings have now dropped but he still draws sizeable support from voters.
