- Story Text: Filipino and Indonesian fans of BTS said they were "heartbroken" on Wednesday (June 15), after the South Korean band that spearheaded a global K-pop craze announced they were taking a break as a group to work on solo projects.
At a BTS-themed café in Manila, 19-year-old Michaela Balmaceda told Reuters she was sad when the news broke, but said the artistes deserved a break. “Let them enjoy their lives without all the cameras, the fuss, the chaos. Just time to themselves."
In Jakarta, fans were seen at an art exhibit featuring BTS members. Amel, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, said her eyes were swollen from crying, but added members of the band would always have her support.
The group had recently released a new album on Friday (June 10), and met U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House in May to discuss hate crimes targeting Asians.
