- Story Text: A German doctor accused of stalking Princess Diana was on Friday (March 8) committed to a British mental hospital for 28 days.
Charges of breach of the peace and obstructing police were dropped by the prosecution when a London magistrate committed Dr Klaus Wagner.
He was arrested on Thursday night by police as he waited behind crowd barriers outside the plush department store Harrods where Diana was attending a charity function.
Prosecution lawyer Nazir Afzal told the court: "He is deluded, he requires urgent treatment, he is a danger both to himself and the public." "Psychiatrists have assessed him and come to the conclusion that he is deluded, that it is the Queen who is at threat from him, and not the Princess of Wales," he said.
Police had watched Wagner raise a banner bearing a picture of Diana with the words "This is our Queen" and a likeness of Queen Elizabeth enlarged from a banknote with the words "Elizabeast we are 666 of you".
Wagner, who lives in London, was also amongst the crowd on Wednesday at a London neurology hospital when Diana made her first public appearance since announcing she had agreed to divorce Prince Charles and end their 15-year marriage.
