- Story Text: Mexico’s Supreme Court launched on Monday (June 27) a self-produced TV series based on one of the worst serial killers in the country’s history, Andres Mendoza, aimed at raising awareness of femicides, a severe problem that takes up to 10 lives daily in Mexico.
“Canibal: Indiferencia total,†is a five-episode documentary series airing on the court's own "Justicia TV" channel. It revolves around Andres Mendoza’s murder of tens of women who he later buried in his home at Atizapan, Mexico State, where he was captured on May 15, 2021, at age 73, after killing Reyna Gonzalez.
The series features experts and journalists explaining the case and trying to disentangle the murder’s psychology with the hope of raising awareness in Mexican society, according to the Supreme Court president, Arturo Zaldivar.
Between January and May 2022, 385 women have been victims of femicide in Mexico.
