  • Story Text: The final Grand Slam of the year, the U.S. Open, starts next Monday (August 29), with six-time champion Serena Williams the major drawcard.
    The American great, who turns 41 in September, is set to play her last tournament in New York, after recently announcing she's "evolving away from tennis".
    The 23-time Grand Slam champion could sign off her glittering career by equaling Margaret Court's all-time major record of 24 with victory at Flushing Meadows.
    Teenager Emma Raducanu is back to defend her title after her stunning success in 2021.
    The world number 11 got the better of Williams 6-4 6-0 at the Cincinnati Masters last week, before being knocked out in the Round of 16.
    World number one Iga Swiatek will also provide a stiff challenge, as she looks to add to her French Open success this year.
    In the men's tournament, some of the headline acts include defending champion Daniil Medvedev, 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios and rising star Carlos Alcaraz.
    One player unlikely to be there is Serbian Novak Djokovic, who will not be allowed into the U.S. unless he can provide proof of a COVID vaccination.
    The draw for the U.S. Open is on Thursday (25 August).
