When a barista gets to know a customer on a daily basis and the customer likes a specific pattern and the barista always makes it for them, this makes the customer happy. Making patterns on coffee encourages customers to like a shop and frequent it and it encourages the barista to learn the art as they see gratitude and happiness from the customer." - Story Text: Steaming milk and creating intricate patterns on coffee, Baristas in Jordan showed off their artistic skills by competing in a latte art competition.
Held over several stages, over 70 baristas initially competed in Amman, Irbid and Aqaba with only 18 qualifying for the finals.
The competition, which was held as part of the Jordan Coffee festival, is a local one, but organisers are hopeful to eventually join international championships.
"We have direct links with the International Coffee Organisation so that in the coming years they see that we are applying all of the international rules and get international judges to be able to join the international latte art and barista competitions," organiser and judge at the competition, Hisham Abu baker said.
The Jordan Coffee festival, which included exhibitions of imported coffee brands and machinery and cafe stalls, aims to promote coffee culture in the kingdom. It was held between Thursday (August 18) until Saturday (August 20).
"Making patterns on coffee encourages customers to like a shop and frequent it and it encourages the barista to learn the art as they see gratitude and happiness from the customer," Abu Baker said.
