- Story Text: A lawyer for Najib Razak expressed his disappointment on Tuesday (August 23), after Malaysia's Federal Court upheld a verdict that found the former prime minister guilty of corruption charges.
"We're very sad because we lost the appeal… (only) the Almighty alone can dispense perfect justice," said Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, who is head of Najib's legal team.
The former premier was ordered to begin a 12-year prison sentence and handed a 210 million ringgit ($46.84 million) fine.
Najib, 69, had been found guilty by a lower court in July 2020 of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering for illegally receiving about $10 million from SRC International, a former unit of state fund 1MDB.
